After many months (and more formatting headaches than I can shake a fist at), I’m incredibly proud to announce that my new translation of Suetonius’ The Twelve Caesars is finally available as a Kindle edition on Amazon!
This project has been something of a personal odyssey - from the earliest drafts, through endless nights, countless edits, glossary-building, note-wrangling, and the challenge of making all 700+ scholarly endnotes actually clickable. Many of you have followed that process, and I can’t thank you enough for your encouragement and patience along the way.
This new edition includes:
A complete modern translation of Suetonius’ The Twelve Caesars
A critical introduction exploring Suetonius’ motives nd a little history of the book itself
A glossary of Roman terms and names
Over 700 fully linked endnotes for seamless reading and reference
It’s scholarly yet readable, faithful to the Latin yet alive in modern English, complete with foul language, all the sex that the Victorians stripped out, and designed specifically for the digital age, with clean, reflowable formatting for Kindle readers. Or so I hope. This is a first edition, after all. For some reason, it says on Amazon that this thing is 1,112 pages long - believe me, it isn’t!
You can find it here: (This takes you to the UK Amazon, but it should be available everywhere)
Whether you’re a student of Roman history, a classics nerd, or simply fascinated by the strange theatre of imperial power, tons of sex and people getting tossed into the Tiber left, right and centre, I hope this edition will surprise and engage you. If you do pick up a copy, I’d love to hear your thoughts, and if you’re willing to leave a review on Amazon, I’d be enormously grateful.
Please be aware, though, that some of the stuff in this thing is, well, adult in nature and even a little shocking. Those Victorians censored it for a good reason!
I wanted to get this out as an ebook before any other version, just so it can be read. As you also know, I have been working on a paperback version and on a ‘deluxe edition’ via Kickstarter. This is still in the pipeline, although the Kickstarter has taken on something of a different air as I have developed the idea. In that respect, I shall keep you updated, but currently the plan is to have the special edition letterpress printed and hand-bound in an exclusive, limited edition print that will be, well, spectacular to say the least. More on that as I finalise the idea, but it will be something absolutely magnificent to own.
A more easily accessible print version will also become available, hopefully in the next week or so, but for now… It’s here!
Thank you again, truly. This book wouldn’t exist without your support.

I can’t find it on Amazon Australia….
Bravo!! I just dived straight into Amazon and got it on Kindle. After thoroughly enjoying some interesting turns of phrase in the translation of Titus you shared the other day, I am looking forward to checking out the others. I promise to give a fair review! :)
