More Bang for No Bucks
As part of a long-standing plan to expand content for you, the reader, and not something that I just decided to do this morning whilst I was getting water for the dogs, honest, I’m pleased to announce the start of a new daily newsletter.
Happy Birthday, You Bastard will be a short dip into the world of one infamous historical figure who was born on that day in question, bringing you a snapshot of either what a glorious bastard they were, or what a horrible bastard they were. Or perhaps both.
They will be people you have heard of, or people you haven’t, but each one will be bite-sized and potentially quite interesting.
This will carry on, daily, barring illness or getting hit by a bus, in which case you’ll have to wait a few days until the next one (if that’s not too much trouble), until we reach 365 birthday celebrations of some absolute bastards. And then we’ll probably start again.
All of this will be, naturally, completely free for you to bore someone down the pub with, or to use to repel overly chatty park bench strangers, or to fascinate and bewitch potential romantic partners with as you skip gaily through a 17th Century rose garden.
Or you can just read it on the toilet, like everyone else. Up to you.
All I ask in return is that you subscribe, for free, to get the daily updates and on top of that you’ll still get the other regular free stuff, like Potentially Interesting History. Any subscription helps me get this stuff out to more people. If you love what you’re getting, please let me know and if you don’t, also please let me know. Your feedback and input, however scathing would be very welcome.
Lastly, there is an option to choose a paid subscription. It’s a mere $5 a month (or $50 a year) and for that you get all the normal content, plus access to exclusive paid only content and a guarantee of access to any future content. You’ll get it all. Obviously, as I produce more content, it takes more time and I’d really appreciate the help a paid subscription gives, if only to keep the lights on and pay for costs.
The long-term future will involve more paid content than free, so if you’d like to jump in early and help out, I’d be hugely grateful. Producing this stuff has always been a huge pleasure for me and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do writing it.
Thank you so much.
