As you could probably expect, the night-shadowed streets of ancient Rome were not exactly the safest places to wander, arm-in-arm with a loved one, taking in the soft evening air as one meandered gently home after an evening meal.
It’s always seemed odd to me that the Romans didn’t have the equivalent of a DPP or a DA, but rather abrogated the prosecutorial function to private citizens (like Cicero).
